Welcome to Reader Rants, the weekly post where the readers take over and have their say. If you want to be a part of a future Reader Rants, like Cagewriter on Facebook and comment on any of the stories that show up in your newsfeed.
To start out this week's rants, not everyone was disappointed that the #RallyForMarkHunt was stopped by UFC president Dana White.
Meh. Good. Better, more qualified options exist than Mark Hunt. If Hunt deserves it, he'll show it with the rest of 2012. Giving him a title shot now would be pretty weak. Not sure it'd even be exciting. Good chin vs. Slugger doesn't always equal good fight. Sometimes it just means assbeating, and his ground game is still pedestrian. -- Dylan Schmeyer
Alexander Gustafsson impressed with his win over Thiago Silva. Several Cagereaders want to see him fight Ryan Bader, though one wants to see him fight a former champ.
A number one contender match vs. Bader seems to be the most appropriate matchup. Hendo was guaranteed a title shot and won't risk losing it by fighting a dangerous up-and-comer like Gustafsson. -- Grady Woods
Bader makes a lot of sense. Tests to see if Gustafsson has improved his wrestling defense to elite levels. -- John Wilcox
He needs two top ten wins for me to think he's a threat to the belt. Lyoto machida makes a lot of sense to me. -- Adam Smathers
Finally, most readers' respect for Brian Stann grew even more after he stopped his own bout against Alessio Sakara, though one reader didn't think he should have stopped.
Clearly, the man has seen enough needless violence for one lifetime. -- David J. Karchmer
I think it's too bad for the fans. The man is trying to be classy and I respect that, but he's in a sport that has rules. If he truly didn't want to hurt Sakara he could have backed out of the bout and let someone else take it, but he chose to compete and agreed to the rules, one of which is you go until the bell or referee stops you. If he had stopped when he did and Sakara had recovered (and won?) he'd be crying foul that the bout was not stopped. In other words, he got lucky that the referee agreed and next time he should respect the fans, the UFC, the other fighters and the referee who all help him make a great living by fighting to his full ability and abiding by the rules instead of acting as assistant referee in his bouts. -- Joshua Smith
There's no point. Continuing to possibly do permanent damage is senseless to inflict on an athlete so they can never fight again or worse -- Holly Rotroff

After traveling all the way to Japan to take on Frankie Edgar for the UFC lightweight title, Benson Henderson will defend the belt against Edgar in his backyard of Denver, Colorado at UFC 150 on August 11th. The event, which has yet to be announced, is expected to take place at the Pepsi Center, which was also the site of UFC 135 last September.

Michael McDonald gave the UFC its best (and only) candidate for the Knockout of the Night at UFC 145 with a first-round knockout of former WEC bantamweight champ Miguel Torres. McDonald got the KO with an uppercut at 3:18 in the first round.
After the bout, the 21-year-old planned a g-rated celebration.
"I get to eat some pizza, some ice cream, it's going to be a party tonight! But no alcohol," McDonald said.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones just defeated Rashad Evans by unanimous decision in the main event of UFC 145 and has already been matched up with Dan Henderson for his next title defense. It should come as no surprise that early estimates by oddsmakers have the young dynamo cast as a sizeable favorite to win his next title defense.

Yes, Dana White is worth millions of dollars. Yes, he gets to hang out with all sorts of cool celebrities. Yes, he has a private plane and a fancy sports car and multiple homes and, well, anything that anyone worth nine figures can buy.
But do you really want to be Dana White? Do you really want to do what it takes to be the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship? In theory, it sounds fairly enticing, until you hear some of the details -- the gory details, in my opinion.
White said Wednesday from his home in Las Vegas that from late Friday through Tuesday, he spent a total of 50 hours in the air. After figuring the flight times, it appears the correct number is 33 hours in the air, though that doesn't account for stops or waiting time. For the mathematically challenged, 33 hours is a full day and a quarter.
White's journey started late Friday, after the live airing of "The Ultimate Fighter" in Las Vegas. After White completed his obligations on the show at about 8 p.m. Pacific, he headed to the airport for a flight to Stockholm, Sweden.
The plane left Las Vegas at 10 p.m. Pacific. About 11 hours later, he was in Stockholm to be cageside for UFC on Fuel 2. When the fight card ended, White and crew hopped a plane for a six-hour flight to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, for meetings with his partners. When the meetings were complete, it was an almost 16-hour flight from Abu Dhabi to his home in Las Vegas.
"I don't know what it is, but I don't get jet-lagged," White told Cagewriter. "I guess I'm lucky. But you know how on the Internet, a lot of people say I'm fat? I get it a lot -- 'Hey, you fat pig,' that kind of thing -- but when people meet me, they say, 'You know, you're not really as fat as you look in pictures or on TV.' But when I'm in the plane that long, I kind of get bloated, swelled up, whatever you want to call it. I can't even close my fist sometimes."
White's travels aren't done. He'll be in Las Vegas through Friday, handling his duties with "The Ultimate Fighter" yet again. After the fight, he'll hop a plane for Atlanta, so that he can attend UFC 145 at Philips Arena on Saturday.
That's a simple four-hour cross-country trip. After the news conference that will begin early Sunday morning, White will hop his plane back to Vegas for a nice little West Coast to East Coast commute in a span of about 30 hours.
He's not flying Spirit Airlines, the worst airline known to man, and he's not squeezed into a middle seat next to a 330-pound guy who smells like he last showered in the Clinton Administration, but it's air time nonetheless.
There may be some folks who find that kind of a job appealing, but don't count me among that group.

After Jon Jones defended the UFC light heavyweight belt with a win over Rashad Evans, questions immediately turned to his next opponent. At Saturday's post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White confirmed Dan Henderson would get the next shot at trying to unseat Jones.
This title shot comes after Henderson had a banner year in 2011. He won the Strikeforce light heavyweight belt, beat MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko, then returned to the UFC with a win over Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in a fight that's considered one of the best of all time.
It will be Henderson's third chance to win the UFC belt. After winning titles in Pride, Henderson lost UFC title shots to Anderson Silva at middleweight and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson at light heavyweight. Back in 1998, Henderson won the UFC middleweight tournament at UFC 17, but that is the only UFC title he's won in his 15-year MMA career.

Though White didn't nail down a date for the Jones-Henderson bout, UFC 149 in Calgary was mentioned as a possibility.

UFC 145 was a top-heavy card, with most of the pre-fight discussion focused on the main event of Rashad Evans vs. Jon Jones. However, some of the undercard still managed to stand out with memorable performances.
[UFC 145 recap: Jon Jones' length crucial in handling Rashad Evans for decision win]
No. 1 star -- Michael McDonald: The bantamweight continued his undefeated UFC run with a first-round knockout of one-time WEC champ Miguel Torres. After the fight, he showed true class by sending several tweets to Torres to thank him for the fight.
No. 2 star -- Ben Rothwell: When Rothwell weighed in, he showed off a sleeker shape than he's ever had in the Octagon. He then proved the new body was not just for looks as he knocked out Brendan Schaub in just over a minute.
No. 3 star -- Travis Browne: "Hapa" saved the preliminary card from being all decisions by ruining Chad Griggs' UFC debut. Browne used knees to knock Griggs down, then a beautiful arm triangle to submit Griggs in the first round.

On May 19, Josh Barnett will take on Daniel Cormier to decide the winner of the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix. When he walks into that cage, he'll bring with him the experience of 36 fights, including eight wins in his last eight bouts. After Alistair Overeem's license was called into question by the Nevada Athletic Commission because of results of a testosterone screening, the UFC has changed the heavyweight bout at UFC 146 on May 26. Now former champion Frank Mir will face current champ Junior dos Santos for the belt. UFC president Dana White tweeted the news on Friday night.
In early April, Overeem's pre-fight random drug test raised red flags with the NAC, who will administer the May fight in Las Vegas. His testosterone levels were well above the approved levels. He is scheduled to to appear before the NAC on Tuesday.
The ongoing question after Overeem's troubles arose was who would replace him on such an important card. This is dos Santos' first title defense since beating Cain Velasquez for the belt in November. Overeem earned the title shot by defeating Brock Lesnar in December.
Though a vocal group of fans pushed for Mark Hunt, who is fighting Stefan Struve at UFC 146, Mir was always the best option. He would not have to change much to prepare for the bout since he was already scheduled to fight Cain Velasquez. Mir won his last three bouts, including a memorable submission of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 140.
