Many have predicted this move for some time now, but former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar is finally addressing and embracing the idea of a drop to featherweight.<BR><BR>
The former champion will once again attempt to capture 155 pound gold, when he rematches Benson Henderson sometime in the months to come (no official date has been pinned down for Edgar/Henderson 2, as of yet), but he?s also quick to acknowledge the fact that a shift in weight classes is all but inevitable.<BR><BR>
"We?ll see what the future holds, but I think it?s inevitable that I?ll eventually get down there. I just don?t know when." declared Edgar at a recent press conference.<BR><BR>
He also spearheaded the rumors of a potential clash with reigning 145 pound champion Jose Aldo, noting that he was offered an immediate fight with the Brazilian should he make the transition to featherweight.<BR><BR>
"I?m all about fighting big fights, and fighting the best guys, and Jose Aldo?s one of them," stated Edgar. "We?ll see where it?s at, whether it?s at 145 or 155."<BR><BR>
A meeting between two of the most dangerous fighters south of 170 pounds now looks like a near guarantee. The fact is, everything hinges on Frankie?s rematch with Benson Henderson, and the possibility of Jose Aldo making a move to 155, which he?s expressed interest in recently. Regardless of where it takes place, Aldo/Edgar sounds like a fantasy match that will likely become a reality. We may even be fortunate enough to see it this calendar year.<BR><BR>
