Cristiano Marcello, who has been on the mats and in the cage with many UFC notables as a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu master, is going to take in the Octagon for the second time in his career tomorrow night at UFC 153. The bout is also going to be the second time he will be in the cage with his opponent, though last time they weren?t fighting. Marcello and Reza Madadi have a history with each other and not the good kind, meaning fans shouldn’t expect to see them having dinner together after they weigh-in to say the least.
At the beginning of last year, Madadi defeated Rich Clementi for the Super Challenge lightweight title. Marcello, by mandate from the promoter, entered the cage to challenge the brand new champ, and the rest is history.
?At the time they gave him to me, I said thanks to God because at the time you?re a champion you know someone is going to try to take your belt. If you watch the tape I?m so respectful, I said thanks to Reza for being here and telling him he?s a great fighter,? explained Marcello in an interview with MMAWeekly before breaking down the issue that has since left him with a sour taste in his mouth. ?He takes the microphone out of my hands and tells me I?m not on his level.?
The altercation ended with Madadi storming out of the cage following his rude remark. As one might imagine, the situation hasn’t sat well with Marcello.
?I?m a respectful guy, a family guy, this is my job. I don?t want to be the kind of guy to be disrespectful with somebody?s family or somebody?s country, I?m not the kind of guy like that,” said Marcello, confessing his attitude was a bit different regarding Madadi. ?I don?t like talking before, but when it?s going to be personal, it?s going to get personal.?
Marcello (12-3) walked into the The Ultimate Fighter 15 house at 12-2, and because he won his first fight on the show he was invited to fight on the Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale card a few months back. Unfortunately, Marcello came out on the wrong end of a knockout courtesy of the knees of Sam Sicilia and is looking to redeem himself in front of his countrymen. To assist him with that goal, he says his distaste for Madadi is going to come in handy.
?If I have the chance to break his arm, I?m going to do that,” stated the motivated Brazilian.
Meanwhile, Madadi (12-2) won his Octagon debut by way of Guillotine Choke over Yoislandy Izquierdo and he clearly has the momentum going into UFC 153. That being said, Marcello has about 20,000 Brazilians in his corner, and the four-stripe BJJ black belt is promising Madadi some local hospitality.
?I?m going to kick his ass. I?m going to submit him. I?m going to give him the chance to choose how he wants me to submit him. Armbar or triangle,? said Marcello. ?I?m going to do that.?
Marcello’s match-up with Madadi will take place on the preliminary portion of tomorrow night’s lineup. Fans can catch the bout on Facebook when actions fires up at approximately 6:45 PM EST.
