Light heavyweight Quinton Jackson may not like what Chael Sonnen represents as a fighter but he?s apparently unwilling to take it a step further by facing the outspoken grappler inside the Octagon. Recently Jackson and UFC President Dana White confirmed the 34-year old former champion turned down a chance to back up some tough talk criticizing Sonnen’s skill level by coaching against him on TUF 17 before eventually mixing it up in the cage.
The gig ultimately went to champion Jon Jones who will face Sonnen in late April.
?I don’t want to fight Chael. He’s the kind of fighter that I don’t want to fight. He’s a boring fighter that just wants to hump people,? said Jackson in an interview with MMAFighting after initially revealing his decision to decline a match-up with Sonnen.

Jackson is currently waiting to test out free agency after getting in the final bout on his deal with the UFC. He was expected to take on Glover Teixeira earlier this month but withdrew due to injury.

Earlier this week, UFC president Dana White called the hastily thrown-together bout between Stephan Bonnar and UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva a fun fight.
Asked earlier this month in Nottingham, England, if those ripping the matchup should relax a bit, White said certainly.
"You're absolutely, 100 percent right (that it's OK to have fun fights sometimes)," White told MMAjunkie.com. "The fact that the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world steps up and says, 'Somebody's hurt? I'm in'? Second time he's done it, too ?he came in late after i'd already canceled the Jones fight. It's weird (fans are down on it)."
I like fun fights. Who doesn't like a fight that just exists for entertainment? But when you're talking about the pound-for-pound king who is 37 years old, you have to consider how many fights he has left in him. Is a fun fight at a bigger weight class the best way to use him?

Another problem is with putting a fun fight as the main event of a pay-per-view. $54.95 is a lot of money to spend to watch the world's best fighter go against someone who is not considered a challenge, by oddsmakers or anyone else in the sport.
Yes, Silva saved UFC 153 from going down in flames like UFC 151 before it, but White shouldn't be surprised when people aren't over the moon about a "fun fight."

Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson is off UFC 154 with injury, the UFC is currently seeking a replacement for his opponent Besam Yousef. MMAFighting first reported the injury to "Wonderboy." UFC 154 will signal the return of UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre as he takes on interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit for the undisputed UFC welterweight crown. The card will take place November 17 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

Despite being ravaged by injuries, UFC 153 turned out to be the one year's best cards. Who really stood out?
No. 1 star -- Anderson Silva: Granted, Silva's opponent wasn't among the best in MMA, but Silva still showed just how dominant he is by moving up a weight class and still disposing of Stephan Bonnar in the first round. Bonnar tweeted that Silva's knee to the chest paralyzed him and he couldn't fight back. That sort of accurate and imaginative striking is a generation ahead.
No. 2 star -- Jon Fitch: Who are you calling boring? Fitch broke down Brazilian phenom Erick Silva with never-ending, dominating ground and pound. Fitch's last two fights were a draw and a knockout loss, so he needed this bout to remind fans that he is still one of the best welterweights around.
No. 3 star -- Demian Maia: On a night filled with brilliant submissions, Maia was the best. Why? Because he choked Rick Story and cranked his neck so hard that blood came gushing out of his nose. Though blood is a common sight in the Octagon, it usually is incidental to striking, not submissions. Maia creatively brought blood to the cage, and showed that welterweight is the right class for him.
Who are stood out for you? Speak your mind in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

During Friday's bout between John Dodson and Jussier Forniga, the boo birds started early. Though the two flyweights provided a strategic bout that ended in a knockout win for Dodson, some people in the Minneapolis crowd were not happy. They shared this displeasure by booing early and often.
One fan who was sitting near UFC heavyweight Pat Barry not only booed the fighters but then called them "pussies." When he said that word, Barry couldn't let it go. According to a video he posted, he asked the man to repeat what he had just said. When the man wouldn't, Barry chided him.
"Hey man, question! Gotta ask! What'd you say? Say it again. Say it loud so everyone can hear you," Barry said.
But the man waved it off. After Dodson knocked out Forniga, the man sat down with his hat pulled over his head. When Barry was confronted by him later, the man blamed his actions on having a bad week.
In the video, Barry called fans like this man roaches.
"That's why I call them roaches. There are more of them than us. They're never going to go away. They're feeble creatures."
Barry caught plenty of flak for using the word roach, but he isn't wrong in his point. Fans who spend hundreds of dollars of tickets to UFC events then spend the entire time booing and yelling vulgarities are hard to understand.
Do they have the right to yell what they want at fights? Absolutely. If they want to waste their money and lose their voices yelling instead of enjoying the fights, they can. But why do it? There are some fights that aren't exactly barnburners, but lately, fans have been booing even thrilling fights. Demetrious Johnson's win over Joe Benavidez also brought out the boos, for no good reason.
But after Barry stood up for his fellow fighters, boo birds are on notice. Watch where you boo, or you may be called out by a UFC heavyweight.

After Strikeforce canceled Saturday's events, fighters worried about their finances because they didn't have the fight pay day. The good news is that they still will receive some compensation from Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC and Strikeforce.
MMA Junkie confirmed that the fighters left without a bout will get their "show money," or the amount they would get for fighting regardless of the bout's outcome. As far as the sponsors who also add to their fight night payout, it's up to each individual sponsor on how they want to proceed.
[Kevin Iole: It's time for Showtime, Strikeforce to cut losses, move on]
Since finding out they didn't have a fight, a few fighters took advantage of not having to cut weight.

Gian Villante had to cut down from 240 to 205. He was in the 220 range when the fight was canceled. He headed to Taco Bell when he heard the news.
"If I'm going to be honest, the first thing I think is, alright, I'll just go to Taco Bell, but I don't want to go crazy," Villante said to MMA Fighting. "So I went with a cheesy gordita crunch with chicken, and they have this new thing, a Doritos taco shell, that just looked amazing. That was calling my name, I went for that one. I had about three of those. I went home and there was this veal parm hero that was in the fridge for about a week now that my brother left in the refrigerator. It's been looking at me for a week and it's just torture, so, I'm like you know what, I'm eating this thing. I ate half a veal parm hero that was a week old and didn't even taste good, and then I had about a half a gallon of ice cream, chocolate chip cookie dough."
That's downright astounding. Thank goodness he is being paid at least his show money, as he might need to stock up on some healthy food to make up for that binge.

Opening a box of sports cards and finding an autograph is a fairly common occurrence nowadays, as companies have been doing their part to bring signatures of your favorite athletes to fans as conveniently as possible. However, what should be fairly straightforward has become troublesome at times over the last few years. One TNA wrestler was released from their contract after it was found they had “outsourced” the signing of their autographed cards to a family member. Evidence and autograph research against an NHL rookie last season recently determined he may have been stamping the signature on many of his cards, prompting an outcry from collectors and fans alike, and a call for action from the manufacturers of those sets.
Topps has been fairly vigilant with maintaining legitimacy of their UFC autographs. Fighters regularly visit the head office in New York, and take photos signing their cards and stickers. One UFC Fighter has told stories of how he would sit down at his dining room table with a representative from Topps, and they would chat over coffee while he signed his cards for them. In the nearly four years they have been making UFC cards, nothing of their autographs have really come under scrutiny until a recent series of Tweets between Roy Nelson and a fan last month.
Enclosed are the tweets between Nelson and a fan who showed him his collection. The messages aredated September 25, 2012:
@roynelsonmma @MohamedH09 Cool collection, but I have to ask the card in lower left with big country please tell me you didn’t buy off ebay. Not my sign [sic]
@MohamedH09 @roynelsonmma I did, so it’s fake?
@roynelsonmma @MohamedH09 Sorry

@MohamedH09 @roynelsonmma Thanks for letting me know. Ill make sure to ask you about that stuff the next time I buy from ebay.
@roynelsonmma @MohamedH09 Don’t worry it [sic] a problem, Trying to fix it. Topps even forgeries [sic] signatures too. So how are you to know unless you get it direct
Nelson has been particularly careful about his autographs on the secondary market, even going so far as to contact eBay about forgeries earlier this year. He has also said in the past that he has also had just one autograph deal with Topps, which was his Ultimate Fighter autograph from 2009.
Additionally, “Big Country” made sure to individually hand number each autograph he signed to ensure there were no counterfeits. Below is a picture of Nelson’s Ultimate Fighter Autograph, which, as you can see is clearly hand numbered out of 250 copies. This particular copy sold on eBay earlier this month.
The autographs Nelson was directly questioning the authenticity of was the 2011 Topps Moment of Truth autograph. In that set, two variations of the Nelson autograph appeared: One with his full name, and one with his nickname “Big Country.” Both are sticker autographs with no individual numbering, or approximate date of signature. Topps, however, stands by the authenticity of the autograph, as witnessed by the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) on the back. Here is the card in question, along with the certificate of authenticity on the back of the card.
The COA goes on to state the autographs were witnessed directly by Topps. Similar stickers were used for Nelson’s Round 4 Autograph, which was produced in fairly limited quantities and is one of the harder cards from that set to find.
Who is in the right here? Nelson? Topps? It’s hard to question when the fighter himself is stating the autographs are forged, however, Topps is a company that has been in business for the better part of the last century, and collectors and fans alike would be quick to defend that it would be tough for a company to stake the integrity of one of its most famous inserts on a single participant.
Unlocking the answer to this mystery may stretch further back than Nelson’s time in the UFC.
Starting with Topps’ second UFC series in 2009, cards started to surface of fighters using their old style of autograph stickers. These prismatic foil stickers had slowly been phased out for use on a regular basis since Topps’ 2007 and 2008 sports sets. In fact, the autographs in the first Topps UFC series all utilized a different sticker. Unless the design specifically calls for the prismatic style, Topps has been using clear stickers wherever they can since the inaugural set of UFC cards in 2009. While almost all of the athletes in the series 2 set (Jon Jones, Dan Henderson, Georges St-Pierre, etc.) signed clear stickers, fighters like Pat Miletich and Mike Ciesnolevicz had the old style autographs. Other sets featured certain fighters using these stickers as well, adding to the intrigue. Below is a list of fighters with autograph appearances using the old style Topps stickers (ordered by oldest-newest in terms of set release:)
-Pat Miletich – Round 2
-Matt Horwich – Round 2
-Mike Ciesnolevicz – Round 2
-Vladimir Matyushenko – Round 4, Moment of Truth
-Marco Ruas – Knockout 2010
-Chris Horodecki – Title Shot
-Bart Palaszewski – Moment of Truth
Do you notice a trend with those names?
Back in spring of 2007, Topps announced they were going to take their first foray into Mixed Martial Arts trading cards with an International Fight League (IFL) set. The set would feature current stars and coaches of the IFL for that campaign. Autographs and memorabilia of the fighters would be made available on those cards, and was set to be the first major dedicated MMA release for North American audiences. Before the set could be completed, however, the IFL ceased operations and all the work Topps had done to date had to be scrapped. All that remains of those IFL sets are the press announcements, and a set of promo cards which are now rare, and demand a significant premium when they appear on the secondary market.
All of the fighters listed above were with the IFL at the time, as was Nelson. In fact, in that same Moment of Truth set, Vladimir Matyushenko’s autograph stickers have partial, or full signatures of his first name, which he has not done with his clear sticker Topps deals. He has been signing “VMAT” or, at best “V MATYUSHENKO” in his other UFC deals. Here is an example of a Matyushenko’s Moment of Truthcard with this old style autograph.
Would it be reasonable to think, as a result, that with all this evidence, Nelson’s UFC Round 4 and Moment of Truth autographs are leftover stickers from a potential IFL autograph deal from 2007, and that Topps was using them to simply make the most of their investment years ago?
You be the judge.

Shamar Bailey was a part of the thirteenth season of "The Ultimate Fighter," fought twice in the Octagon, and also fought for Strikeforce and Bellator. While he's still fighting, he also works as a firefighter in Indianapolis and was injured Monday when working on a fire that was the work of an arsonist.
Bailey talked about the fire to Bloody Elbow, and said his injuries were routine.
We had a big fire yesterday involving a three story house. It flashed over on us while we were cutting holes in the roof. While we were cutting the holes, there was an explosion. The fire and smoke heated up to a release point and exploded in our faces. Fortunately, we had our masks on, but I did get some exposure in my chest area and on my wrists, and that's where I'm burnt. We went ahead with business and put the fire out, and I actually didn't realize until afterwards that I had been burned.
The house was considered a total loss, and the Indianapolis Fire Department is investigating the arson. Bailey has a fight scheduled against Gideon Ray in December, and doesn't think the second-degree burns he sustained will keep him from fighting.
Bailey isn't the only fighter who moonlights as a firefighter. Retired UFC fighter Chris Lytle worked as a firefighter in Indianapolis throughout his long MMA career, and Eddie Wineland works as a firefighter, as well.

If welterweight Nick Diaz is looking for a major match-up when he returns from suspension in February it appears he already has a volunteer willing to step up and fill the slot opposite his. According to outspoken Ultimate Fighter alumnus Josh Koscheck, Diaz is among the handful of opponents he?s hoping to be paired against in early 2013, though he?s also open to a number of other options as well.
?I?d like to fight Nick Diaz, Demian Maia, Jake Ellenberger, (or) Rory MacDonald,? wrote Koscheck on Twitter after revealing the UFC had told him he wouldn?t be competing for a few more months. ?Any of those guys will do it.?
Diaz and Koscheck have both spoken openly about their mutual dislike of one another, making for a match-up featuring two talented fighters with personal stakes on the line as well. Meanwhile, Koscheck was originally supposed to face Ellenberger earlier this year but was forced out with an injury. Like Maia, he is currently free to face any opponent the UFC pairs him with, while MacDonald has his hands full with a December fight against BJ Penn.
