For MMA fighters, caring about public opinion is part of the job

Nearly 2,000 years ago, back when the Romans were still walking around in bathrobes and sandals, the emperor Marcus Aurelius paused in his relentless empire-ing long enough to make an observation.

"I have often wondered how it is that every man loves himself more than all the rest of men, but yet sets less value on his own opinion of himself than on the opinion of others," he said. 

This seems especially true for pro MMA fighters.
