Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva was moved up to take on Cain Velasquez, leaving Roy Nelson without an opponent. Now, UFC President Dana White has announced that Nelson will take on Gabriel Gonzaga, who was set to welcome Strikeforce import Shane Del Rosario on the event.
Gonzaga returned to the UFC in January for the first time in over a year, submitting Ednaldo Oliveira at UFC 142 in Brazil. Nelson hopes to bounce back from a loss to Gonzaga's countryman Fabricio Werdum, and hopes to avoid a fourth loss in five fights.
There's no word on whether or not del Rosario will remain on the card, nor who his replacement opponent would be.
Penick's Analysis: I hope we get to see a replacement against del Rosario, as he was one of the top guys I was interested in seeing in the Octagon from the Strikeforce roster. Still, Nelson-Gonzaga is a really good heavyweight matchup, with two skilled submission guys who also happen to have knockout power. It should be a fun fight, but this card is certainly taking a much different look than it had up to last Friday.
